This iPad and iPad accessories will help students who come see me for individual and/or small group counseling practice mindfulness in a calm setting. There are many free apps available to counselors and teachers that promote mindfulness and social emotional learning (i.e. Mind Yetti, GoNoodle, Calm, Headspace, Kids Yoga Deck, etc). I would like to use these with my students who need some help with calming down and being more mindful using the breathing activities, exercises and calming music these apps provide. I will also use the iPad pen to allow students to draw on the iPad, if they choose to instead of paper. There are also many apps that our younger students can benefit from in helping them learn about and identify feelings through the use of games.
We want every student at our school to feel safe and welcome! I lead a coalition of students in a group called No Place for Hate. These students help promote kindness, inclusiveness, acceptance, and safety for all students on our campus. We often make many creative videos to share with the entire campus at our school-wide assemblies and this iPad would be so helpful in getting to do that. This benefits our whole campus as we spread the message of being "hate-free" and inclusive!
