The seat sacks that I am requesting will be used on the backs of the chairs for the students in my classroom. The students will be able to keep all of their school work, folders, and other classroom belongings in the sack in order to avoid unnecessary transitions to and from a cubby all day. This will be a difficult year for our students and we will begin the year by teaching them about safety; proper handwashing, germ spreading, 6-foot distance, and, of course, wearing a mask, and why these things are important right now. The seat sacks will also be part of a discussion on safety and personal space.
The donations for these seat sacks will ultimately help the students feel safe and secure in their environment so that they can focus on the real objective, which is learning.
As we progress through the year my hope is to help the students have less anxiety about our current situation and maintain focus on the learning environment and lessons. It is difficult for a student to focus on learning if they are worried about safety, which is why these sacks would be so important and make such a difference. My goal is to teach the students that they can be safe and learn at the same time with a little less worry!
