Our school purchased curriculum from Lawrence Hall of Science, a leader in science education. The Marine Activities, Resources and Education (MARE) offers an opportunity for our whole school to come together and learn about science. From kinders learning about the pond habitat to fifth graders studying open oceans, each grade has the opportunity to focus on one key aquatic habitat.
Fifth grade explores the open ocean. From whales to plankton, our students learn about what lives in the Pacific Ocean. In class they learn all about plankton and their importance, and once they know that they get to "create" a plankton and participate in the The Great Plankton Race. This is just one of the many hands-on activities our students get to experience throughout MARE Month.
This field trip will be our culminating activity for this unit of study For some kids, it will be their first experience in San Francisco!
