The petri dishes, graph paper, topsoil, plastic spoon and dropper will be used in a science lab where students are comparing two samples of soil and determining their characteristics. Students will do another science lab to discover the relationship between the height and width of a sand hill by using the materials of a tray, cardboard tube, dry sand, spoon, ruler, and masking tape. Students will use materials to make and read a topographic map. Students will learn about convection currents and how might convection in Earth's mantle affect tectonic plates using such materials as, the large container, small glass jar, food coloring, plastic wrap, and rubber bands.
