So far, we've been learning the foundations; the building blocks of art such as The Elements of Art, Principles of Design, basic color theory and how to draw what we see. Pencil, marker and paper are serving us well ...so far.
Several students have asked when they can start painting but I don't have any canvases. Watercolor paper is fine for ...well, watercolor but I really want to see what they can do with acrylic (which I have). I'm also requesting paint markers (black and white). I've used paint markers in my own work for many years so I know what they can do. They're a good half way point between markers and paint so for the kids who have never held a brush, they can sort of warm up with paint markers, getting the basic outline complete and then go back in with real paint.
The materials requested will give each student the opportunity to create two paintings this year.
