Students will join book clubs and read non-fiction texts together. The students will have the opportunity to choose which text is most interesting to them.
These texts were chosen because they are non-fiction but also both engaging and readable.
They are meant to help students become good consumers of information and informational text. By analyzing author's purpose, text structure, and language, they will become readers for the real world. By reading together in cooperative groups where they will regularly meet and discuss the book, they will deepen their understanding of the text, and because they have a choice, they will be more motivated to read authentically.
