A-B-C-D..... Now we know our ABCs! In our busy and active Pre-K classroom there lives a library/literacy center. Currently we have numerous books for this center and even have a listening center for the students who visit there, but we are lacking literacy manipulatives for the students to explore and learn with. My students need alphabet materials to help them make the correlation from the cheery song they sing each day to the letters in print, that will one day be put together to make words they can read. The alphabet beads and blocks will be great additions in assisting the students in how to write and learn the letters in their names. These materials will give them the exposure and ability to manipulate the letters they sing about each day in fun, exciting, and engaging new ways!
Reading and literacy is the key to the educational foundation of young learners. When I can engage and incorporate literacy activities into my classroom and the lives of these little learners, the more I am fostering a love of reading within them. The selected materials will greatly help with this mission. The use of the re-telling story kits and re-telling board will allow my students to "read" the books we enjoy as a group independently in the library center.
