Last year, I was a first year teacher still learning when I stumbled upon the First LEGO League Challenge. After doing my research and getting to know the stellar students I work with as well as the impact the program has on students' STEM understanding, I was convinced that it was needed to encourage the high achieving group I am privileged to work with. This year is the first chance students at my school have to participate in a robotics club. This is an exciting opportunity for students to develop their expertise in hands-on STEM challenges outside of the classroom and test their creations at conferences on weekends in their communities.
Students will be using the requested LEGO Mindstorms EV3 kit to build a competition robot that meet the demands of a rigorous challenge put forth by the First LEGO league. Currently, we have access to used sets which are missing critical pieces. In order to be competition ready, we would like a complete EV3 set for our club. We are looking forward to the opportunity to develop in our students skills in computer science, engineering design and the scientific practices. Any support you can give towards helping us to meet our goal would make a difference in taking these high achieving students to the next level!
