My students want to read whatever they get their hands on. Our demographics are changing rapidly and increasingly we have kids who need books in other languages. Our library has a small collection, but not nearly enough. I want to provide my Spanish-speaking students with the sense of comfort found in reading familiar texts with familiar characters. My EL kids want Captain Underpants and Princess in Black in their lives and I want to give them to them.
My library needs more books in Spanish so more books can reach kids at home. I want their parents to be able to read with them at bedtime. I want their siblings to get excited about reading. Most importantly, I want all my kids to feel included during library time.
