As a counselor, it is important for students to be able to discuss and explain important life events through the interventions that are developmentally adequate for their age. Fidgets and sand-tray therapy interventions allow for children to express themselves more freely. Since children do not have the capacity as adults do to sit down and have clear conversations, it is important for students to have the tools to do so. When speaking to students, it is important to have stimulating and engaging tools that give room for communication in normal and natural settings for children. Working in an elementary school with young children can pose a challenge when seeking to elicit in depth conversations but with the appropriate tools for engagement it is definitely possible and exciting to see this work come about.
