Students are challenged with everyday obstacles and decisions to make during the school day. And while decisions can be made, feelings accompany the decisions being made.
I would like to create an area where students can go and express their emotions through art and play. The area rug will serve our early childhood and special needs populations with an area to feel comfortable exploring their feelings and the kinetic sand will help with sensory motor skills that may help alleviate non expressed feelings. The arts and crafts, like the people shape popsicle sticks for decorating can help a student express their emotions and speak about their family and culture. And the SEL card games will help serve as conversation starters to establish rapport between the student and counselor.
This type of creative center will allow the students to express themselves and be ready to go back to their classrooms and be ready to learn after understanding the flow of emotions that come after making decisions throughout the school day.
