In the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), all students should have access to learning and understanding STEM as early as Kindergarten or even Preschool. STEM puts an emphasis on preparing future generations to be successful in their careers. Through STEM education, students gain knowledge that extends beyond those needed to be successful in STEM fields, preparing them to be successful in their careers.
STEM-based education will teach children more than science and mathematics concepts. These materials will focus on hands-on learning with real-world applications that will help students develop various skills set, such as creativity, problem-solving, critical thinking, decision making, leadership, acceptance of failure, literacy, productivity, social skills, flexibility, and 21st-century skills which include, but are not limited to media and technology, that are needed to survive in a real world.
As a Kindergarten teacher, I would like to prepare today’s children to become engineers, mathematicians, scientist, innovators, and inventors of tomorrow with STEM education. This exposure using STEM education will provide my students with hands-on experience with real-world application necessary for developing innovative and creative students for the future. Through the generous funding of this project, my students will get the necessary tools for our science and math centers.
