Smart Speakers for Autistic Support Classroom Benefits:
Autistic Support Teacher is looking for creative ways to challenge is autistic students. One of the skills that they try to develop in Autistic support is communication. Having a voice activated smart speaker would allow more students more opportunity to develop better communication. When using a smart speaker, if you don’t speak loud enough or clear enough the speaker won’t respond thus motivating the students to speak so they are heard and understood. There are educational apps available for both devices that teach conversation skills and some even keep data so that time spent on the device can be incorporated into the students IEP. Additionally, time with the Google Home and Amazon Echo will teach executive function skills like setting alarms and a basic understanding of technology. The request is for both the Google Home and Amazon Echo since they do not interfere with each other and two students/groups could utilize them at the same time.
