Over the years, I have seen the powerful impact meaningful literature can have on student engagement and excitement toward learning. As a school social worker, my essential goal is to support my students’ academic and social emotional needs. We are requesting engaging books that provide essential character education messages.
After completing a significant amount of research on numerous children books with character education/social emotional concepts, I have selected eight wonderful books for my students to read. Our titles include I Am Enough, What Do You Do with a Problem?, Edwurd Fudwupper Fibbed Big and more.
This selection of books not only have engaging story lines and characters but, also provide essential messages on the importance of having self-esteem, problem solving, kindness, growth mindset, responsibility, courage, honesty, and imagination. The books that I have requested also speak to the many diversities our students represent.
With your support and generosity, these books will reaffirm to my students that authors and characters like them do exist. I am excited to have the opportunity to start new and engaging projects centered around reading, growth mindset, character education, and social emotional learning. I will also incorporate differentiated instruction, common core learning standards, and social emotional learning standards. After reading each book, my students will utilize graphic organizers, hands on activities, and complete comprehension activities that are designed to delve deeper into the characters and the message each book is intended to relay.
With your generosity, I would love to have the opportunity to expose my students to these great books that will inspire and encourage them to become life-long learners and productive members of society. This is how we make our future leaders successful.
