My students are disadvantaged black students who do not have an air conditioner in their classroom. This basic and essential need often makes it hard to learn with temperatures over one hundred in Philadelphia. While my students are amazing individuals, anyone would be distracted/unable to work in conditions like these.
My students, many of whom have asthma from poor air quality, cannot breathe in my classroom due to the heat and humidity, this makes it nearly impossible for learning to happen. The air conditioner will make learning possible. Every day I am stopped because of students' inability to breathe, focus, and enjoy being in the classroom. It is urgent that this condition is changed.
