My students never get to read books that are brand new. Moreover, they never experience the feeling of connecting with the main character on a deeper level - they never see themselves in books.
I chose over forty books that my students can imagine themselves in, so they can get lost in world of their own. I am asking for books including The Poet X, Let the Right One In: A Novel and Born A Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood. These are books where the characters look like them, speak like them, and fight to become all they can be. My kids deserve to see themselves in the books they read, and to be inspired by novels in the most genuine way possible. My kids are incredible, and they deserve to feel the magic of connecting to a brand new book.
