This past year has been difficult for teachers. In my schools, we have known the fully remote and hybrid options for students, and have tried our best to make an even transition to both. I knew that this year would require quite a bit of technology integration to keep students safe and engaged, so I have continued to make a steady effort in integrating what I can use in my classrooms.
I teach general music (K-6) at Geiger Elementary in Lewiston, and 7-8 Strings at Lewiston Middle School. I have been a freelance musician for 20 years, so I have the audio resources that I need, but never quite had the video resources.
I am here today asking for you to donate to a cause that will benefit my students. Every Monday I record a video about daily national holidays for that week, as a way to connect with students on a social-emotional level. Every Tuesday and Friday morning I perform music in the hallway as students arrive at school. When our school was remote, I recorded them, and posted them to our digital classrooms. Every Wednesday, I record videos relating music to exercises, in hopes that students can create some healthy habits on remote days (or weekends). I have had this schedule all year, and I don’t intend to change it, even after the pandemic.
A webcam works great for Zoom meetings, but that requires a computer. I can't move around to make my exercise videos with a school-issued laptop in my hands! My cellphone has worked to record moving videos, but the stabilization, audio, and picture angles have always been an issue.
If you can help fund a better camera, I can capture for students what they miss in seeing me in person, and hopefully engage them more.
