My sixth graders are craving independence and choice as they are moving onto middle school but still need guidance and structure. They would be very excited and extremely appreciative to have a choice of seating options in our classroom. Being able to provide a few choices instead of always sitting at their desk would motivate them and also put a smile on their faces while they are learning.
Currently, my students have traditional desks and chairs for instruction time and a carpet to sit on when they read independently or are working in pairs or small groups.
Providing my students with two foam rocker chairs and two bean bag chairs would give them a cozy and comfortable area to sit. I feel that they would be more engaged and excited about their reading and learning if given options. The bookcase would keep our leveled books and supplies organized and easy to locate.
My students are asking if we can somehow get cushioned chairs for the carpet area. They are grateful for the carpet that we have but I would love to be able to pull through for them and have four donated. This is my first project and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will be as successful as I know my students will be.
