鈥淚 hate reading!鈥 is never something a teacher wants to hear. Students often need direction when it comes to selecting books, and it also helps to add some excitement!
Our ELA teachers choose a book each year that EVERY student on campus will be reading at the same time. This year, it is Freak the Mighty, a story about acceptance and overcoming obstacles. This is a wonderful novel for our age group, as it is engaging, relatable, and best of all it teaches empathy.
This novel selection is appropriate and accessible to our diverse community of learners, including our ELD students, and students in the special education program.
