My classes (PreCalculus and Calculus) use an online instructional platform that provides extensive content (e.g., digital textbook, tutorial videos), homework assignments, assessments and personalized learning plans. In a typical class period, I will teach a lesson or do an activity and then allow students to start on an assignment via the online platform that is designed to enable them to practice important skills and reinforce key concepts. The opportunity to start on the assignment in class allows students valuable time to immediately apply what they learned, collaborate with classmates and ask me for help before going home to complete their work.
My goal is to provide a one-to-one computing environment in my classroom. Currently, I don’t have enough chromebooks for all of my students so it is often a mad scramble to borrow chromebooks from other teachers or have some students try to access the assignment on their phone. The website is not designed for optimal use on a phone and not all of the features are available.
In addition to providing my students with the benefits described above, the chromebooks will be used to access other online resources that allow students to explore and visualize mathematical concepts (such as Desmos and Wolfram Alpha), create spreadsheets to model real-life applications of math, and perform other computer-based tasks for assignments and projects.
With the funding I am requesting, I will be able to augment my existing collection with four additional chromebooks and provide access to valuable online resources and learning opportunities for all of my students.
