Most of my students are entering kindergarten with no preschool skills. They will grow from knowing no letters sounds to fully reading by the end of kindergarten. We have long hard working days and little time for truly playing. I have created many tools out of paper for my students to build and explore the alphabet and word building. We have a few worn out puzzles and letter kits that are the joy of our classroom. I am hoping to build a set of 12 rotating centers that students can visit during the week.
Young students learn best through play and exploration. Providing many different tools to work with allows them to engage in meaningful letter exploration. This will lead to word building while moving and wiggling to get out extra energy.
