The funding of these projects will support our studies through reading and writing units, including the social and political issue of immigration and migration of groups of people around the world.
Refugee: The reading of this novel by all students builds prior knowledge of three major immigration movements in history: Jews escaping Nazi occupied Germany in 1939, Cubans leaving Cuba during the reign of Fidel Castro in 1994, and Syrians fleeing their war-torn home country of Syria in 2015. We study this novel prior to an 8th grade field trip to the Museum of Tolerance in Los Angeles. Having this book in their hands will only further their engagement in and understanding of these complex, real-world injustices and help them to become more globally aware citizens.
Flexible Seating: My class is filled with unique, driven, and active students with diverse needs. Choice seating allows for focused learning.
