Many upset students visit my office each day in need of a space to calm themselves and prepare to re-enter their classrooms. The comfy beanbags will give them a place to rest while they use a sensory tool to help ground themselves so they can choose an effective strategy to manage their emotions.
Having a designated calm-down area in my office will allow me to continue to teach my small social skills groups while students who are upset can also get their needs met while I am teaching.
The games will make learning social emotional skills fun and help kids build friendships. I have already witnessed the power of giving students opportunity to place "old fashioned" board games together. Playing games designed specifically to help them build key social skills will make the learning they are doing in their small social skill groups take off!
