As in so many schools, social studies has been pushed to the back burner of what many students are learning. It has been replaced with math and science, leaving many students with little to no understanding of how our country came to be. This project is meant to create an opportunity for students to experience history in the classroom.
For so long, history has been a great time to fall asleep, it is my hope to change that. I will use these materials in whole class reading groups, and bring experiences to students through the resource boxes that are provided. I intend to allow my students to really experience history through activities and interacting with it, in a way that differs from the classic "textbook" teaching method.
