As teachers, we often think about how hard this pandemic has been on us and our ability to teach. But more importantly, it has also been extremely difficult on our students. They may not outwardly talk about it, but it shows through the increasing number of students exhibiting symptoms of depression, anxiety, and poor self-esteem.
I want to provide just a little comfort to my students by providing a greater variety of seating options for them.
I want my classroom to be warm, welcoming, and to meet my students' needs, even in something as unexciting as seating! Standing desks will help those who are having trouble sitting still and focusing. It will also be a seating option for students to use when they are completing their daily reading. I want my students to know and to feel, that despite this pandemic, I care about meeting all of their needs in my classroom, even if it is just a place to sit. The pandemic may have made us all feel we are in a horserace to make up for lost time, but the most important thing is for my students to feel loved and supported, no matter where or how they choose to park their behind while reading or doing independent work! Thank you so much for this opportunity to help my students!
