Having multiple copies of a book allows peer pressure to work in a positive way! When small groups of students chose a book and read together, the classroom is student-centered and they become the experts on the text.
New titles that are not featured on SparkNotes allow students to have their own opinions and interpretations. They no longer feel wrong or silly because it doesn't match up with what the website says.
When the books are not being used for book clubs, students may also check them out for choice reading. So one copy may be read by multiple students throughout the year.
