In order to facilitate a small group novel study of What Happened to Cass McBride by Gail Giles, my students will need individual copies of the book for in class use. By having a paperback book, the reading experience will be authentic. Students will be able to look back in the text for key examples, preview future text, and pace themselves as we read the novel.
The book Barron's 1100 words will assist me in creating meaningful vocabulary instruction for my struggling readers. When students take the Living Environment Regents exam at the end of the year, vocabulary will be a key component tested. It is imperative that they are exposed to new words and know how to break down and identify unknown words so that they can be successful.
