Because all of our students have unique and special needs, having a classroom environment that supports those individual needs is so important. What supports learning for one might be different for another. Our classroom strives to move all students forward in their individual journey in a supportive and friendly way. Sitting with a weighted friend on a shoulder allows some students to be able to sit comfortably and calmly to listen to a story. Being able to sit on a special cushion with alternative lighting makes participating in a classroom group activity less overwhelming.
We believe all of our students can learn though they may need us to find ways to make that happen for each of them in an individual way and meaningful way. Materials and an environment that provide calm and sensory input support listening and engagement in the classroom which ultimately encourages learning.
