The copies of The Hate U Give will give me the ability to start the much desired book club that has been requested by my students. A group of girls at my school has expressed a sincere interest in leisure reading and specifically, in this book. This book would provide the materials to get our book club started. Each of these young ladies is unique and frequents the library, but I have yet to have the resources to allow all of them to read the same book.
By supporting this project, you will support literacy and reading in an underperforming school. Each of these young ladies has room for growth in their reading scores as well as on the ACT reading test. By reading more, they improve their vocabulary and reading fluency. Reading this book together will give them more of an opportunity to dig deeper into a popular novel. By allowing us to engage in this book together, I can push these young ladies beyond their comfort zone with their reading and they can actively engage in a book of their interest.
