When you begin reading a good book, it's hard to put it down. And since my students are able to build their own personal library set, they may not move quickly when it's time to transition from independent reading to whole or small group instruction. Their transition needs to be with ease even when there is so much excitement from reading.
The personal "Chair Mates" will help my "Class Authors" read and respond with ease, especially since they will have to put aside their good books when it's time to transition to listen to specific skilled instruction(s). Recorded responses about what's being read can easily be recorded on the "Post It Super Sticky Easel Pad" to be shared and viewed throughout the day. And by the end of every day of learning, reading and responding with ease and excitement will help to increase student engagement, learners growing personally and collaboratively as "Class Authors."
