My students are young, so they need to have concrete objects to process their mathematical thinking. My students enjoy working independently, so I picked materials that will provide independence when working in workstations while I work with a small group. My students come from two different grade levels, so the materials are perfect for all at their different academic levels. Kindergarten students really need to work with manipulatives that are eye catching for them. They really love the idea of being playing, and the selected materials will give them that feeling. First grade students will benefit from headphones to work on Math programs.
