As a Title 1 school, we have adopted a reading program that requires students to read independently at school and home for 30 minutes. Students have a reading folder, which includes various resources, such as, a reading log. My first grade students are responsible for keeping track of their reading folder and bag of books. One challenge that we are facing is the lack of storage space. In my classroom, we use tables, not desks. Students don't have their own storage space close by. Students have been using their cubbies, but that requires them to get up from their seat and walk to the other side of the classroom. This transition takes time out of our instructional day. These chair pockets would make students' supplies easy accessible.
