As a social studies teacher, my desire is for my students to understand the diversity that surrounds them and the role that they play in our community. My students take delight in seeing themselves represented in various ways, and what better way than through literature! I want to establish a classroom library where students will not only see books that represent their cultural backgrounds, but also of those that live in their communities. By contributing to my classroom library, you will help foster my students' engagement in reading, improve their reading comprehension, and increase their vocabulary. These will in turn allow them to not only learn about experiences that relate to social studies but also assist them in navigating through our world.
