Due to their significant learning needs, my students often display difficulty connecting with peers and establishing meaningful friendships. The students within my class show difficulty interacting with peers appropriately. Each day my students are given opportunities to play with others during center time and often the children display parallel/side-by-side play or become frustrated or uninterested with each other.
Social skills need to be explicitly taught to my students, and by using simple board games such as Candy Land and Don't Break the Ice, my students can build language, practice rule-following and turn-taking, stay motivated to maintain relationships and develop lasting friendships with their peers.
Help me purchase the materials I need to teach my students how to make connections with other children while also establishing positive attitudes, respect, fairness, and honesty... the skills needed to become successful, contributing community members.
