Hurricane Michael escalated from a Category 3 to just shy of a Category 5 in less than 24 hours. When Hurricane Michael hit on October 10, 2018 most of my students were outside of the mandatory evacuation zone or lacked the means to evacuate. My school, and the community where my students and my family lived, were decimated. Many of my students attempted to ride out the storm inside their homes, but instead were witness to everything they had ever known being ripped from them. Our school lost our media center and technology labs, homes and belongings were lost, and many of my working students no longer had a job to go to. With the loss of the technology labs, our laptop and Chromebook carts are being used in our technology classrooms leaving us without much needed resources to create and update resumes, search for new jobs and prepare for our Hospitality Tourism Management Program Certification. Having access to laptops in our classroom, the students will have a small piece of their pre-storm normal returned.
