About 4 years, one teacher and 8 students came up with the vision of a library our school deserves, sadly we haven't even touched our potential. Our library is about 10 bookshelves that are full of donated books. However, while we are grateful for those who gave us book, the books are outdated and in poor conditions, Our students have a hunger for reading. They deserve a library full of novels, but my heart breaks at my inability to spark ALL 550 students' love for reading!
The students work hard for the library they have; we just need a little bit of help filling it with books that students want to read! If we can cultivate a culture of reading on our campus, our literacy rate and lexile levels will rise. Right now we have too many students who are below grade level in reading and writing, and one of the best ways to combat that is by reading. These books will help our small school start a larger conversation about the necessity of reading in schools!
