Del Norte is a small rural place with one library for the entire county. Students have limited access to the kinds of ideas kids in cities are exposed to. They are hungry for different ways of thinking and reading material that they can sink into.
The books we are asking for are contemporary, high interest reading choices from a variety of important voices. We will run literature circles, which gives students the opportunity to choose their reading material while still having access to discussion and connection with other students. They won't all be forced to read the same thing, eliminating issues of reading level and interest.
