This year I want to teach my students where their muscles are and how to build them up. Not only do I want to teach them about muscles but to also help them take control over their bodies and make healthy choices from themselves. I want these students to have a voice and feel like they have control over their body. I chose medicine balls to help start this unit because I believe most students can use these as well as use objects similar to medicine balls at home. They learn that they can use many object to help build themselves up! I also wanted to give the students a visual on where their muscles are located, this I why I chose to pick Mr. Muscles. They see where their muscles are located and which exercises work those muscles. This will also help students understand that the activities they participate in outside of school require these muscles. They can CHOOSE which muscles they want to strengthen to help them improve in their activities while helping them improve their everyday well being. Building these students up and giving them something positive to help give them some control in their lives.
