I teach pre-k in a very diverse school district. Our school consists of about 30% Caucasian, 30% Native American, 30% African American, and 10% Hispanic. Many children fall into more than one of these categories. Almost all of these children qualify for free or reduced lunches. A large number of these children love school because of the social interaction they get with other children. Being that my class is so diverse I think it would be very valuable to teach a unit about different races. About how everyone is unique and special in their own way, and about how we as humans should except everyone as they are and love ourselves!
