I teach on a Native American reservation in Montana where most students come from low-income housing. My 17 students have a rich culture where community and family ties are important! Although, misunderstood by many Westerners, my students have dreams and goals they can achieve through persistence, effort and support! There are many local natives who have attended Ivy league schools and have returned to the community to help! This is the kind of attitude pervasive among the family and community.
