Flexible seating has proven to empower my students to take control of their own learning. They have learned through trial and error where they can and cannot work effectively and are able to articulate why and prove it through their hard work and focus. I love how you can feel the difference in my room when you see students all making the right choice for them, but it looks so different for each student. Students choose to work sitting with pillows, clipboards, at small group tables with vinyl whiteboard stickers, at standing desks, or even on whiteboards we have created on the sides of filing cabinets.
When my students have choice and can see the positive results of their own choice, you can see that they take pride in their independence. Our classroom is a community that works together to learn from one another and teach each other. Flexible seating allows for more arrangements that encourage collaboration to happen.
The products I have selected will help broaden my students’ choice of where to produce their best work. I am excited to see how these things will help my them and add to the collaborative atmosphere in the classroom. The dry erase table will be perfect for pairs working together drawing models and visualizing problems. The round floor cushions will be perfect for a low set table to comfortably sit on the floor and work. The vinyl dry erase stickers will be perfect to set at all heights all around the room for students to sit on the floor, sit in a stool, or stand as they work through problems. The portable lap desks will be perfect for both our indoor and new outdoor classroom. Thank you for your consideration. I am so excited to see the impact in our room!
