As the only School Counselor at a PreK - 8th grade Title I School, I see firsthand the challenges that many of my students face daily. My students live in a rural, low income/high poverty area that was recently impacted by Hurricane Florence. Many of our families struggle daily to provide basic necessities for our children such as safe housing, putting food on the table, and mental health treatment. I work with a caring staff who is willing to pull together to help meet the needs of all 468 students, many of which have special needs such as ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and Autism.
This is the first year that I have my own classroom that allows me to work with whole classes, small groups, and individual students. In my classroom I teach character lessons on the value respect, responsibility, anti-bullying, citizenship, conflict resolution, as well as college and career planning.
