Having these books in our 3rd-grade classrooms will allow us to dig in deeper into the history behind Harriet Tubman and her journey in freeing slaves during the Civil War.
In class, we will read and explore the story of Harriet Tubman and then get to experience the story in a real-life play in February. Students will have the opportunity to compare and contrast the story from the book and the story we watch in the play and be able to discuss how this has helped shape our world today. Having the capabilities of reading the story as a class will also give them a better understanding of the play.
