Intentional themes paired with student exploration is a gateway to student success. My theme for my classroom this upcoming year is Camping through Exploration. The awe and wonderment my students will experience when they see a teepee tent they can enter to enrich their love for reading gives me an overwhelming feeling of excitement. The ability to have the choice of sitting in their traditional seats, on wooden pillows, at a picnic table or simply standing allows me to begin the process of ownership in the life of my students. The materials I have chosen for this project allow me to transform my space from classroom to safety haven. Students who have never even heard the term camping will become boy and girl scouts.
I want to give my students something to call their own, an experience unlike any other they've seen, something and someplace they will always remember. The materials I have chosen can and will do that.
