These cameras will allow my students to continue their education in photography skills and let them take the excellent yearbook photos they strive for. I chose the Nikon Coolpix B500 because these cameras are low cost but high quality.
My students will be able to become adept at zooming in on subjects, the difference between taking still photos and action shots, and learning the ins and outs of low light situations. In my Yearbook class, my goal is to teach the kids "21st Century Skills," not just make a great yearbook (although that's a good goal, too!). In regards to photography skills, I try to teach them how to tell a story in photographs by paying attention to not just the subject in front of them but the actions and reactions of everyone around the subject. It's my hope that, even if they don't continue with photography, they will be able to see the "bigger" picture in life, always.
I want them to be able to experiment taking a variety of photos in a variety of situations, and the small compact cameras we currently use don't offer a lot of options for taking photos in a wide variety of situations.
