These materials will be critical components of a hands-on exploration of DNA. The incubator and bacterial transformation kits are for a lab that will allow my students to safely create their own genetically modified organisms, and thereby viscerally engage in the field of genetics while developing skills standard in the bio-engineering industry (genetic heat transfer protocol). The lab will then be complemented by a series of lessons facilitated by DNA modeling to help understand the biochemical process behind the GMO phenomenon. I believe these lessons are both accessible and engaging to every student in my class. With your help they have the potential to both inspire and prepare future scientists for a lifetime of discovery.
Finally I have included a few reams of printer paper and paper towels to share with my entire science department because these everyday supplies are essential to our jobs but very undersupplied in our under-resourced school.
