Advanced students will often finish their work early. Many teachers will ask those students to read a book. So, what is wrong with reading a book? Nothing! Books are great and without an ability to read, you will be hard pressed to get a good job in the future. The students that often finish their work early are usually strong readers and need to be challenged in other aspects of education.
I want to challenge my "fast finishers" in ways that are relevant to the 21st century. I want to provide activities for them that will help them be creative and think critically as well as give them an edge in their future schooling. Cubelets and engineering kits will provide an opportunity for my "fast finishers" to do something other than read a book. These activities will provide them with a means to be more skillful in our current world.
