My students put their knowledge of scientific research processes with their love for the environment to make a difference in their community. This program teaches them how to bring change to their communities. Last year, we had issues with possible data corruption because the paper was lost on the way back, another time ink ran when the paper got wet from the rain. We were testing to see if the trash clean ups helped the water quality. They come up with ideas like how to collect litter from our pond while it is floating on the water instead of waiting. How to get water from rain barrels to the plants without carrying it. Last year, we had 6 community cleanups, removed 700+ bags of trash from our community, competed in 3 competitions, and logged over 2200 hours of community service. We finished the year by taking the kids camping in a state park.
