Children these days have to deal more emotionally than ever before. From trauma and poverty to divorce and domestic violence, children are exposed to it all. Especially students like mine who come from mostly low income and broken homes. Many of my students don't come to school with their basic needs met. They are hungry, unclothed, and emotionally unprepared to learn. Some students come to school to learn; others come to feel safe, loved, and fed. Most days when my students arrive they are in need of far more than a teacher. They need love, compassion, attention, and emotional support. Being a title one school we have some supplies available to help our students, but with so many students in need my supplies are falling short. I need books to help develop social skills, headphones, weighted blankets, calming tools, and wiggle seats. These are just a few examples of tools that can help make my students' lives a little easier.
