In my class, student dance on concrete floors, as the floor has not been funded. I try to provide a genuine dancing experience to my students with the means I have. Just like football has a field and cleats, dance has a dance floor and dance shoes. Many of the dance moves I teach can become challenging and sometimes dangerous because students do not have the right shoes in which to dance. All of dance that is lyrical, jazz, and ballroom require special shoes to be able to turn and slide. Students wear vans, and very hard to move in shoes. To solve the problem, many students want to wear socks; however, on concrete floors, it is not a good idea. Providing my students with dance shoes would help them dance better and feel what dancing is truly about.
